Gleanings from Tefillah
What follows is an exploration of Kaddish – a prayer said in memory of loved ones.
Yitgadal v’yitkadash sh’may rabba
GDL: increase, expand, combined rope threads
KDSH: prepare, invite or summon, a palace
Shem: mark, name, nature, essence
Rov: great, large, much

Balma dee v’rah kheerutay
Alma: nature, existence, world; mystery, dormant core
Dee: that, which
Barah: open, actualize, create an opening
K’: according to, in alignment with
R’utay: will, pleasure, good will
into this world, which at its core opens to and actualizes in alignment with divine pleasure and good will

V’yamlikh malchootay b’chaya-chohn u’v’yomay-chohn
Malach: R’ Marcia Prager: mem lamed kaf: mother waters flowing into our open hands on the crooked path of life
Malchut: the sphirah of manifestation in this world
B’chayechon: (your) life, support, health, necessities of life
U’v’yomeychon: (your) day, at once, in this moment
In this present moment, open your hands to receive the support you need and the necessities of life from even the crooked places on your path

Uv’chayay-khon d’khol beyt Yisrael
Chayyeh: life, support, health, necessities of life
D’chol: all, everyone
Beyt: house, home, family; to protect, contain; a receptacle, interior
Yisrael: (yashar) be firm, strong, to direct. El: God; to, toward
And not just for yourself, but for everyone, each a receptacle of God, each one a material manifestation of the divine


B’agalah: agal = rolling, swiftness, circle (wagon, wagon wheel) (B= in)
Vizman= ready, prepared, right time, designate for a purpose
Kariv: come near, approach, internal organs, within, receive, touch
Imru: to be knit together (weave speech together = say)
Amen: to arrange in lines, array; be firm, straight
Let us align ourselves: all things will be ours in their right time.

M’vorach: blessing, unhindered prosperity, pool; to form, to bless
Alam: Alma: nature, existence, world; mystery, dormant core
The essence of abundance, perfect flowing, is the inner most nature of inner most nature.

Barach: potentiate blessing, unhindered prosperity, pool; to form, to bless
Yishtabach: “describe and satisfy fullness”, calming appearance; to improve, grow in value, to get bright,
Yitpa’er: to open wide, to distinguish
Yiromam: high, exalted, to be lifted up
Yitnaseh: raise, forgiving, sustaining, cloud, to offer up
Flowing, calming, open, lofty


Yithadar: project power, beautiful & exceptional
Yithaleh: rise up, develop, upper chamber, conduit
Shem: mark, name, nature
KDSH: prepare, invite or summon, a palace
Beautiful, conducive is this inner nature we invite

Beyond words of blessing, beyond even music


Tushbechata: “describe and satisfy fullness”, calming appearance; to improve, grow in value, to get bright
V’nechemata: comforting, reconsidering, changing attitudes
D’aminram: to be knit together (weave speech together = say)
B’alma: in nature, existence, world; mystery, dormant core
Beyond what we value most, a center of comfort that we weave in daily life, all things are ours in their right time.
Oseh Shalom:
Oseh: to do, prepare, to become
Shalom: to be whole, complete, to perfect
Bimromav: lofty, exalted
Hu: he, she it, whatever it may be
Yaaseh: make, create, causing to grow
Aleinu: on us
V’ahl kol yisrael, v’ahl kol yoshvay tavel
V’imru Amen
To become whole, may we and all people experience the perfecting [of the knowledge that] all things are ours in their right time.
Expand and invite the essence of infinitude and expansiveness into this world, which, at its core opens to and actualizes in alignment with divine pleasure and good will.
In this present moment, open your hands to receive the support you need and the necessities of life, from even the crooked places on your path
And not just for yourself, but for everyone, each a receptacle of God, each one a material manifestation of the divine
Let us align ourselves: all things will be ours in their right time.
The essence of infinitude, perfect flowing, is the inner most nature of inner most nature.
Flowing, calming, open, lofty, beautiful, conducive is this inner nature we invite.
Beyond words of blessing, beyond even music, beyond what we value most, a center of comfort that we weave in daily life: all things are ours in their right time.
To become whole, may we and all people experience the perfecting [of the knowledge that] all things are ours in their right time.
